THIS SITE IS MOSTLY ABOUT OUR SCHOOL IN CAMBODIA – BUT IT ALSO GIVES YOU A FEEL FOR SOME OF THE WIDER EXPERIENCE IN MODERN CAMBODIA. PLEASE FOLLOW US!
Savong’s School is a free school located near Siem Reap, Cambodia. The aim of the school is to give poor rural students – many living below the poverty line (a family earns less than $US40 per month) – an educational boost that will enable them to find employment in town.
Siem Reap is gateway to the famous world heritage site, Angkor Wat, so two million tourists visit each year. For this reason we teach language skills (English, Korean and Japanese) but this has been extended so that we now teach computer skills as well.
In 2010 we began a scholarship program to award the top students from the school a full scholarship to university (laptop, university fees, living allowance and transport) and this is going well, with 16 students currently being supported through university study. They’re doing very well.
In fact the whole project has been characterised by hope and good results.
Of course support is always needed, and one way to give this is via the PayPal link on the http://www.savong.com website. We also have anew project to extend the school’s services to include Primary Classes in the mornings. Can you help?
I’m also here to answer any questions. I’ve worked alongside Savong since 2004.
