About us. A clear dream to give young people education.

THIS SITE WAS TRIGGERED BY MY INVOLVEMENT WITH A SCHOOL IN CAMBODIA – BUT IT ALSO GIVES YOU A FEEL FOR SOME OF THE WIDER EXPERIENCE IN MODERN CAMBODIA. PLEASE FOLLOW US!

Savong’s School is no longer open. The aim of the school was to give poor rural students – many living below the poverty line (a family earning less than $US40 per month) – an educational boost that would enable them to find employment in town.

Siem Reap is gateway to the famous world heritage site, Angkor Wat, so two million tourists visit each year. For this reason we teaught language skills (English, Korean and Japanese)and this was extended to computer skills as well.

In 2010 we began a scholarship program to award the top students from the school a full scholarship to university (laptop, university fees, living allowance and transport) and this proved very successful. Many of these graduates have themselves become teachers.

Over the years the delivery by the local Bakong High School improved significantly so there was less need for our alternative. As I’ve learned over the years, the duty of a charitable project is not to survive, but, rather to make itself redundant. The school served its purpose while Cambodia was undergoing massive social change.
